Col. Paul Poisson

July 1887 - October 1982

First World War 1914 - 1919. Wounded at Courcelette in France 1915. Decorated by King George V at Buckingham Palace in 1916 for his part in the action around Courcelette. Received Military Cross and promoted from Captain to Major; Four years in France.

Served in the 2nd WOrld War 1940 - 1945. President Medical Board M.D. No. 1 (Military District).

Transferred to Headquarters Medical Service in Ottawa to help preparation of a new book on medical examination of recruits.

Appointed as Officer Commanding Montreal Military Hospital. In 1944 at St. Anne de Bellevue as Officer Commanding, and subsequently opened a new hospital on Queen Mary Road as Colonel.

A man of great faith.

It is not often a man serves in several different fields and distinguishes himself in each. A man of great faith, Col. Poisson was imbued with a sincere desire to serve his fellow man.

  • High School at Paterson in Windsor 1900 - 1905

  • Western University, London 1905 - 1909

  • Graduated as M.D. with Honours June 9th, 1909

  • 1904 - 1945: Served in EVERY rank from private to colonel, Col. Paul Poisson, M.D., M.C., V.D., K.S.G

Opened a practice in Tecumseh October 16th, 1910. Served as Councillor in Township of Sandwich East from 1912 - 1913. First Mayor for the Town of Tecumseh 1921 - 1925. Elected to Ontario Legislature 1926 - 1934. Minister without portfolio, Ontario Government 1931 - 1934. Coroner in Essex County since 1913.

Celebrated Golden Wedding Anniversary on January 11, 1961. His wife, Gertrude (Connor) Poisson passed away on March 1970.

Celebrated 60 years as a doctor on June 9, 1969.

Raised 8 children, had 36 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Colonel Dr Paul Poisson passed away on October 1982.
